Maisey (now Gracie) - Adopted 3/8/2008

Gracie's new home... with a view!

In a letter to the Dog Squad:

Hello,

My name is Jennifer and I adopted “Maisy”, now known as Gracie, back on March 3, 2008. I wanted to keep in touch with those that “rescued” Gracie so that I could have a wonderful dog to play with. Gracie and I have recently moved out of Georgia and are now living in Louisville , Kentucky . So far, things are going well and she seems to be adjusting nicely. Gracie is enjoying her new home, especially since she has a new “perch” to look out on to the world. I have attached her looking out “her” window. Gracie has a lot more room now since we have moved into a 1200 sq ft condo. There are many walking trails and dog parks near by that we can go to.

Thank you for all your organizations hard work and I plan on keeping you up to date with Gracie’s progress.

Thanks for everything.

Jennifer and Gracie

Latte - Adopted 12/4/2007

  Latte's Long Road to Rescue:

Squad Dog Latte was picked up by animal control after being hit by a car! Her leg and tail were badly injured. After waiting the required amount of time for her family to come claim her, ADS rescued her and got her into the hands of a wonderful surgeon. After five hours of surgery to repair the damage done to her leg, she was on the road to recovery. She lost a portion of her tail as a result of the trauma. Through all of this trauma and drama, Latte remained a friendly, out-going and cheerful gal.

On December 4, she was adopted by a wonderful family that was committed to helping her finish her recovery. The following August, ADS received the following email and photo of Latte. In the letter from her family, they report that she has made progress in her recovery and is enjoying her new life:

Hi Kristin,

Here is a picture of Latte' (the dog that had all the surgeries after being hit by the car last Fall) She's very happy and running the place.

Take Care, Craig

The three photos below are of Latte. The first is of her at intake, with her scar from surgery. The second is her adoption photo. The third is the photo sent to us after 8 months as a member of their family. Way to go, Latte!

Benny - Adopted 6/25/2008

Benny Chill's Out in his New Home

Here are some pictures of Benny in his new home. He's a really good boy! He settled in his first night and slept upstairs with us (he found a nice spot to get a breeze from the air conditioner).

He's really good at letting us know when he needs to go out. Tonight we took him for his daily walk and then went out in the back yard where we chased each other around and then he chased the lightning bugs - very funny.

We feel so lucky to have him in our home and want to thank everyone at the Atlanta Dog Squad and thank Alex for being a great foster parent. I've included the picture Toni took when we adopted him and several other pictures of him. Benny loves to curl up over an air conditioning vent or sit in front of a box fan and take in the breeze. Everyone loves his collie face and his little ears.

Thanks again,

Kyle, Catherine and Benny

Skippy (Now Scout) - Adopted 10/13/2007

A life changing experience...

Atlanta Dog Squad,

How can we thank you for bringing Skippy (now Scout) into our lives? We both knew we wanted a dog, but we never knew how having a dog would change our lives and bring us so much joy and fulfillment.

We actually didn't even plan on adopting when we came out to our first Atlanta Dog Squad event--but there was Scout, the cutest little yellow Lab puppy I'd ever seen, and we couldn't stop watching him. In the car on the way home, we couldn't stop talking about him--and then we couldn't wait for two weeks to go by so we could attend the next adoption and decide if we wanted to take Scout home with us. At that second adoption, it was probably the quickest and easiest decision we'd ever made--and one of the best decisions we've made as well. From the day Scout came home with us, we haven't been able to imagine our lives without him.

Scout has brought us closer together as a couple--we look forward to bonding with him and each other on our hour-long morning walk every day before work. Scout is a source of entertainment for me as I have my own business and often work from home in isolation--but he's always there to remind me that I do have some company around! Scout is the life of the party when we bring him to the dog park or take him up to the lake for a weekend; there's never a dull moment with him and I don't think I have ever met a dog with such a gargantuan personality. Most of all, Scout is truly a member of our family. We're so glad that Atlanta Dog Squad took him in and gave him a second chance at a wonderful life, and so grateful that we're the ones who have been able to give him that life.

--Tori & David

In a later update:

Thought you would get a kick out of these pictures of Scout at my parents' lake house this weekend. That's my brother on the jet ski with him--every time he tried to get on the jet ski and drive away, Scout swam out after him, so we took a few shots of them "riding" the jet ski together before Ryan brought him back to shore. He's a funny dog!

Millie - Adopted 6/14/2008

  A letter from Millie:

To the nice ladies at Atlanta Dog Squad:

I am writing to share a story with you..... Just a little while ago my Mama was in the kitchen cooking dinner and my Papa came home. As usual I ran to the front door with my sister Abby to greet him. I wasn't sure what that silly Papa was up to, but he stuck a letter in my collar. We all went to the kitchen and then Mama saw the letter in my collar wondering what Papa had done. Well, she pulled the letter out and read it and then she started jumping up and down, kissing me and kissing my Papa. As it turns out, I had delivered the good news to Mama that I can be a DiLoreti forever!!

So I am writing to ask you if you will please let me stay with the DiLoretis. I have so much fun here - going on walks with my family, wrestling with my Papa, and snuggling with my Mama. I have even learned how to ride in the car like a good girl! Can I please stay forever, pretty please?

I am so grateful to the nice ladies at ADS for saving me from that scary shelter. If it weren't for you, I might have never made it out of there, so thank you :)

Lots of love and licks,
Millie

P.S. My sister Abby says she would really like it too if I could stay forever. Just look at the pictures!
