Dulce (formerly Squad Dog Marie) - Adopted in February 2010

  Congratulazioni, cane dolce!
          (Congratulations, sweet dog...)

A letter to Dulce's foster mom from her new adopted family...

Dulce is as her name indicates truly “sweet/pleasant”. She is also hilarious and quite comfortable in her new digs. She is a PERFECT fit for our household. Thank you so much for fostering her and giving her such a good start. We all just love this dog.

The tennis courts in the neighborhood were empty later this afternoon so I took her inside and threw the tennis ball many times as she retrieved it. She looks like a newborn calf with those legs flailing in the wind! I think she really likes us!

I’ll be getting some professional training for “us” and along with the necessary rules we are doing a good job of spoiling her. I’ve had her on several walks, plus she has three gated decks and the empty downstairs carpeted apartment to romp around on with us.

She does love her new crate and cushy mat but spends lots of resting time stretched out on my butter yellow leather loveseat with paws across the laps of any one of us! She’s a gem!

Thank you!

Jayne

T-Bone - Adopted in October 2009

T-Bone Finds His Voice, and a New Diet Plan

Lots of walks and a good diet are in store for T-Bone:

I have attached the pictures of T-BONE and he is a real joy. He finally barked after about 4 days and just yesterday he ventured up the stairs to see what was up there. We took him to the vets and he weighed 93.6 lbs and she wants us to get him down to somewhere between 75 and 80 lbs. He is taking about 3 walks aday and yesterday, I took him to Hobgood park and we walked a little over a mile.

We are so thrilled with him and your organization that I am advertising your name. Hopefully, some other sweeties will be adopted.

Just me,

Christine

Heather - Adopted in January 2009

Beautiful Heather - Our Calendar Girl

In a note submitted with Heather's calendar contest entry:

. . . she is the most wonderful animal and we have never had a dog who assimilated so easily into our family and who is so very sweet. We feel so very thankful to have her, and so appreciative to you and the ADS for bringing us together! Given her story, she is really the poster child for why dogs ought to be spayed and neutered (you may remember that she was apparently surrendered to a shelter because she was pregnant). It is honestly hard to imagine that anyone would give up such a sweet, easy, beautiful dog for that reason.

Both of my kids (11 and 9) look at your site frequently and would love to volunteer in some capacity. Do you have some activities that they could help with at their age, or that we could help with as a family? Please let me know . . . if we needed to rally some other dog-lovers too, I could certainly make that happen. We are big fans . . . thanks again!

Susan

Boz - Adopted in February 2007

What a difference a little love, a lot of food, and a forever family can make!

Boz' new mom tells us how much he's changed - for the better...

Hello,

I just wanted to send a quick email to thank The Atlanta Dog Squad for all that you do. My husband and I adopted two dogs from your organization - Boz in February 2007 and Lars in March 2007.

They are wonderful dogs and we are so happy to have them in our family. I also wanted to share with you a before and after picture of Boz. When he came to us in February 2007, he was skin and bones. As you will see, he has filled out nicely.

Thank you again.

Regards,

Diane

Duke - Adopted in July 2007

  It's a bird, it's a plane... it's SuperDuke!

A letter from Duke's new dad:

Hi Dog Squad,

My name is Eric and I adopted Duke on 7/7/07. I remember this date because it's triple sevens. I have always been a lucky guy, so I thought the cards were in the mix to get a great dog -- I was right! When I first saw Duke, he was tugging his foster mom across the parking lot and peeing on car tires. I knew he was the dog for me.

If there's one thing Duke likes (other than cats, rabbits, mice, kibbles and bits, and swimming), it's backpacking. I bought him a doggy backpack and take him with me every time we go to the mountains. The first time we camped, Duke was trying to eat our sandwiches, so my buddy thought he would trick Duke by closing the tailgate to his truck, standing in the back of the truck, and making the sandwiches out of reach of Duke. Well, Duke wasn't going to have any of that. He got a running start, jumped onto the bumper, and did a backflip into the bed of the truck. He then stood up and was like, "Dude, where's my sandwich!?"

If Duke was a superhero, he would be Upside-down Dog or Sideways-Tongue Dog. He's just a big goofball. When I sit indian style on the ground and say, "Duke, come here!", he'll get real close and then just fall into my lap. After that, I'll say, "No Duke, come here!", and he'll turn upside down in my lap. At 80 pounds, he's quite a big lap dog, but he's pretty cute so he usually gets away with it. Even my sister likes him - and she's not a dog person!

Thanks again for all of your hard work - I couldn't imagine life without Duke!

Eric
