Meet Beckett, an incredibly handsome purebred Lab! Several months ago, Beckett was found under a bush near a suburban police station. We believe he was hit by a car while out wandering. He was severely injured – a rear leg was badly broken and the hip was injured. The day after we rescued him from an area shelter, our vet performed emergency surgery to save his leg. Beckett successfully came through a lengthy surgery and has a pin in his leg.
After recuperating for a couple of months, Beckett underwent a 2nd surgery to fix his hip. Beckett spent the summer recovering from the 2nd surgery and a volunteer took him swimming several times a week to help him gain strength and muscle tone.
Through all of the trauma and pain, this boy has been a dream – sweet and accepting of everyone.
Update:
Perhaps because Becket spent several months “living” at the vet, he loves being in a foster home. He is super-affectionate and gentle and he loves nothing more than sleeping in bed with his foster parents. He plays nicely with his foster sister, a yellow lab, and he is a favorite of all the children at the bus stop in the mornings.
Beckett is ready for a very special home where he can give and receive lots of love. His leg will never be 100% - but because of the care of the vet, staff, and ADS volunteers he still has it. He has adapted and gets around very well. Long walks will not be part of his future but he enjoys hanging out in the back yard and playing a gentle game of fetch. Beckett will need to take a joint supplement every day for the rest of his life and his ideal home will not be a home where there are lots of steps.
