Grant is shy and cautious but very friendly. This poor boy spent several months in a local shelter due to serious neglect. When animal control took him in he was extremely thin, missing lots of hair and you can still feel the scar from a previously embedded collar. He's healing well now - all of his hair has grown back and he's back up to a decent weight. But you can tell this three-year-old boy hasn't seen a lot of good times. He cringes a little when you reach out to pet him if he doesn't know you. And he can't seem to keep his back legs from shaking when he meets new people. But he really warms up when he learns you're a friend. With a little patience and a lot of love, this handsome boy will quickly become some lucky family's very best friend.
Update from Grant's foster mom:
Grant plays so gently with my mother's neurotic Shih Tzu! He stays on his belly so he won't tower over the much smaller dog, He has even nosed a toy over to him. He's such a gentle man and he has a real fondness for the canine ladies! Grant seems to like all other dogs - and he ignores cats and squirrels. He's met lots of people while we've been walking and his confidence is really growing. He keeps on trying to make me act ridiculous in public - playing crouch and pounce with him while we're walking. I, of course, give in so he can have a good time. When I work at my desk, he likes to keep his head on my knee, and if it's too long between rubs, he's got his nose bumping my elbow. He's been sneaking smooches while "helping" me paint baseboards - in fact, he has added a bit of bright white semi-gloss to his plumy tail. :) If I didn't already have a house full of dogs, he'd be staying right here.
