Logan is happy and silly, and heck, just plain incredible. Remember that favorite great uncle that you just loved to be around because he was fun and made you laugh? Well, that's our Logan. He may be 10 years old and have achy joints, but he still is a typical goofy Lab. When you call him, he gets a goofy grin, lowers his head and comes wiggling over to see you. He's guaranteed to put a smile on your face. One of his favorite pastimes is getting his ears rubbed - you can just see the joy on his face. Logan is a very special dog - a great boy who wound up homeless in his senior years. He deserves a nice warm, comfy, loving home with a family of his very own. He'll return the favor by showing you how to look past life's little annoyances and how to appreciate every day and every friend.
A letter, from Logan:
Hi, my name is Logan. I am about 10 years old. I am one of the happiest, most unassuming guys you will ever meet. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
I am currently living with my foster family: Mom and Dad, 3 sisters (16, 14 & 12), 2 yellow labs, Maisy (9) and Finn (4½), 2 cats, and a goldfish, whom I rarely see? I am very comfortable in my foster home. They have made me feel like part of the family and I have easily adapted to their daily routine, and believe you me - the routine is ever changing. There is no lack of activity around here!
There are always people coming and going from the house, old, young, and in between. I warmly welcome everyone, as do Maisy and Finn, although Finn is an in-your-face, exuberant greeter … I am much more refined! I do enjoy getting my 2 pats worth from any and all guests, and I especially like to flop down and have my ears, side and belly rubbed. I will readily put my paw on yours to encourage more petting! I especially like those little guests, the ones who like to sit down beside me on my dog bed, pat me, rub my ears and give me an occasional, or better yet, frequent, goldfish cracker or other snack (I am not particular; I am a lab after all)! I am very gentle when taking food from our little guests, well really anyone, sometimes I have to be quick when Finn is around because he will try to snatch my snacks!
Speaking of food, I am not a fussy eater and have learned to eat a lot of new things … I am particularly fond of raw carrots, which I was unsure about at first. When I first arrived at my foster home I was several pounds overweight, so they put me on some ‘light’ food and started giving me 1 cup of carrots or green beans with my meal. I have lost at least 10 pounds and look and feel great!
Having lost several pounds, my joints are a lot happier. As with many older dogs, and people too of course, I am a little stiff with arthritis (find me a 70 year old human that is not a bit stiff). I take an all natural supplement for my joints and one for my overall well being as well as some Rimadyl if I am especially stiff. I am good for a short walk, have no problem going to the bathroom, can get up and down several stairs. I get around the main level of the house with no problem; I just don’t go upstairs to sleep. I sleep in the kitchen, which, as we all know, is the hub of activity anyways! I will admit I have been known to jump up on the sofa (much to everyone’s surprise!!) for an extra comfy nap when and if the opportunity arises.
I love going for rides in the car. I will look out the window for a while to make sure we are going the right way and then lie down until we have reached our final destination, or a pit stop along the way.
As you may have noticed above, my foster home is quite a menagerie. I get along splendidly with Maisy and Finn (and they make great pillows) and the cats are really quite extraordinary, I think they think they are dogs?! The neighbor’s cat frequently visits; I get along with him too. Lots of neighborhood dogs walk by and of course I love to greet them all. I am a social guy and am not even fazed when some of the yippy, small neighbors bark and/or nip at me – whatever!
I am not a barker, but will give an occasional woof if I have to go out, if someone is lying on the dog bed I would like to lie on or if Maisy and Finn are taking too long outside and I want my morning bone!
If you would like to meet me I would like to meet you, as I said, I am a really social and friendly guy! I will be on vacation with my foster family until June 26th, we are going to Cape Cod … I wonder if I will like the salt water?
