SquadDog Bruiser

Bruiser is absolutely adorable and shaped very much like a baked potato - a very, very large baked potato… a 140 pound baked potato. Seriously.

He’s absolutely fabulous and we’re not exaggerating – but somehow his previous family couldn’t see it. His family felt it would be cruel to fence him in, so they let him run the neighborhood as he pleased. After being picked up multiple times by animal control, his owners decided they didn’t want to pay a citation again so they surrendered him to the shelter. Somehow, these people who thought it unkind to fence him in didn’t think that leaving their overweight, 10-year-old dog in a high-kill shelter was cruel. Figure that one out.

Bruiser – who is very inappropriately named because he’s as mild mannered as they come– makes friends immediately. He’s big but he’s super mellow and actually pretty fit and able for his… uhm… incredible immenseness. This is the best good ole boy you would ever want to meet. He takes everything politely as a Southern gentleman should, including treats. Nothing seems to bother him – he’s always calm, patient, sweet and accommodating.

This is such a nice dog - so sweet, calm, gentle and tolerant. He leash walks beautifully, checking to make certain that his friends are with him all the way. And he even leans on you a little when strolling. He’s pretty endearing. He’s also good with kids, dogs, cats - everybody! He really likes hugs and will tuck his head into the crook of your arm. He gives the sweetest, gentle little kisses and thoroughly enjoys any and all attention. We were proud to make him a Squad Dog.

Even when Bruiser loses enough weight to get down to a much healthier size, he’ll still be a decent sized boy. So, if you think you might be interested in this big, lovable bear, just say “super-size me” and we’ll be sure to have Bruiser introduce himself.

Update:

Bruiser’s medical tests came back showing he is, for the most part, a healthy boy for his size. We have a couple health issues to help him with and his doctors want to see him lose 55 pounds. Yes, you read that right, 55 pounds! He’s already started his new diet and exercise program; and he seems pleased to just be around people he can love. Oh, and let’s not forget to mention that he’s house-trained too!

Bruiser seems pleased to finally have people around that actually care about him. He’s patiently taking all of the new changes in his life in stride. He’s an all around good boy and so very deserving of the perfect forever home.

Update from Bruiser's foster mom:

Bruiser is a dream to have around. He doesn’t bother cats, loves kids and is totally dog friendly. He loves everyone he meets, plus he’s perfectly housetrained! He just wants to be with you. I love him.

Oh, and he’s lost close to 15 pounds! But he’s still a pretty big potato, so we keep our “Sweatin’ To The Oldies” tape in… We’re working’ it!
