Carmen Augusta is a terrific girl - very friendly and affectionate. We don't know a whole lot about this 7 year old's past. We only know that her owner surrendered her to Animal Control, that she is a little overweight and that her nails had gone untrimmed for quite some time. She was scared to death in the shelter so a kind soul took her into the visiting room to calm her fears and make her feel better. Carmen immediately started giving her new friend sweet "thank you" kisses, sighed and put her head in her lap. That was all it took. Carmen had worked her charms. Her new friend checked her out of the shelter, put her in the car and introduced her to ADS! Carmen is housetrained and actually doesn't like to go outside much at all except to take care of business. It doesn't take a whole lot to keep her happy - just love and affection. She prefers to hang out with her people and she would just relish having a loving home and family of her very own.

Wow! What a difference a couple of weeks can make. Miss Carmen Augusta is no longer a meek and shy little girl -- she's blossomed into a fun-loving, playful gal that lives up to her Chocolate Lab heritage. Don't get us wrong -- she's very good in the house and completely housetrained. But, she's quite the comedian when she plays with her toys. She loves to fetch the stuffed animals and shake them until they lose all their stuffing. Then, she brings them to you and wants to play some more! Carmen gets along great with her foster brothers and sisters, but would probably be just as happy being the one and only four-legged center of attention. One thing hasn't changed with time -- Carmen Augusta still loves to give kisses! If you're looking for a loving companion that would love to accompany you on long walks, but is just as content to hang out in the house, look no further. Carmen's the gal for you.

Update from an adoption day volunteer:

Our sweet Carmen Augusta just LOVES to play in the pool at adoptions. As summer approaches and the weather gets so very hot (especially for the brown and black dogs), we bring out the kiddie pools and let the dogs cool off. Carmen, who usually doesn't care much for adoption events, just smiled from ear to ear and her eyes sparkled when she saw that water...
