Darla is a super sweet girl who gets super excited to make new friends. She’s around 2 years old, and enjoys being with people and other dogs. She came into the shelter as a stray – emaciated and with fur loss due to a flea allergy. She looked and felt poorly. But now that she’s a Squad Girl, things are looking up.
Darla happily showers you with kisses whenever you want… and sometimes even when you don’t. This happy 2 year old just wants to be with you and sometimes has a hard time controlling her enthusiasm. She absolutely loves her belly rubbed - her eyes roll back in her head and she gets a silly grin on her face. She’s a good girl but needs someone to work with her on her manners. She’d like to have a family that she can accompany everywhere… to the park, for a ride, to the lake. Darla is looking for a loving home where her family will spend lots of time with her.
Update from Darla's foster mom:
Darla is a svelte and athletic, bittersweet chocolate beauty with dreamy eyes and longish ears. Darla loves all people and gets especially excited when she sees kids laughing and playing. She must have has some kids in her past life.
Darla is a very smart girl who is housetrained and obedient. She is attentive, wants to please, and knows all her basic commands such as sit, down, stay, heel, and leave it. She’s currently working very hard at not jumping up when you walk in the front door. It's so hard - she is just beside-herself-excited to see you again. She compensates by performing an amazing "cover" of Jennifer Beal's famous dance performance from the movie Flashdance.
Darla is a well-mannered girl. She doesn't get on the furniture, counter cruise, or bark. She enjoys her toys but is not at all destructive and never mistakes your belongings for hers. She takes treats ever so gently from your hand.
Darla likes to keep her figure trim and will encourage you to keep your New Year's commitment to regular exercise by accompanying her on regular walks and jogs. She's still a few pounds light at the moment, so she needs a careful balance of good nourishment and exercise. Although she finds exercising invigorating, she settles nicely in the house and enjoys long and luxurious naps in the protection of a home.
Darla believes that overly enthusiastic overtures made by other dogs are "rude", but she will tolerate canine introductions if they are made on her terms. After having been out on the streets too long, Darla is protective with other canines of her food bowl, toys, sleeping accommodations, her space, and your affection, so she should be the only dog of the house.
