SquadDog Hooch

Hooch thrives on affection and loves to cuddle. He’s a 45-pound, 7-year-old Chocolate Lab with short pixyish ears. He’s a total doll - a real snuggle-bug.

He’s great with people and kids, handing out kisses left and right. And his tail wags constantly, even for strangers. He walks nicely on a leash and sits at attention, happily watching everything when allowed to go for a ride.

Hooch is an excellent companion and buddy. He’ll stick with you through thick and thin – whether walking or riding – or just hanging out.

Update:

Hooch is a very sweet dog that loves attention. He wags his tail constantly, and he has a great personality and a very loving demeanor. He is definitely housebroken - has not needed his crate at all - and has not had even one accident in the house.

Update 2:

Hooch is our “Little Brown” – small and compact in stature. Inside the house he’s extremely well mannered and calm – a really good boy. He barks only when someone comes to the door, but will try to converse with squeaks and funny low growls. He adores a kind caregiver but has probably experienced some rough treatment, since he can be very timid and skittish if you speak harshly to him. His greatest entertainment is hanging out and watching his people. “Whatcha doing?”

His coat is short and silky to touch which makes him almost irresistible to pet – a catharsis from your daily travails. He’s a excellent foot warmer while you watch reruns on cool winter nights. The family all loves curling up with him on the sofa and using him as a pillow.

He can “hold it” all day while you’re away at work and he takes food from your hand very delicately. “Are you sure I can have this?”

In the past few weeks, Hooch has started to come out of his shell and seems like he is realizing its okay to be happy. I would guess it’s been a while since he’s been comfortable and he’s not quite sure if he’s allowed. He spins excitedly in tight circles and talks when you return home or when he comes inside after an invigorating romp chasing a squirrel.

Hooch knows all of his basic commands and really tries to please. Even at an estimated age of 7, he’s very athletic and agile and can walk miles at a good clip. He, however, is not great at introductions with other dogs. He initially fusses and snarls at any attempt at canine social interaction even from a distance. This hostile reaction is likely a defensive behavior since he is entirely submissive to even mild mannered dogs once he gets to know them. Except for a very big initial show, there is no alpha here. Hooch would do best in a home with a yard with lots of squirrels to chase. He also likes to chase cats, unfortunately. He should be an adored only dog or paired with another submissive dog after careful introduction.
