SquadDog Kirby

Meet Kirby, aka "the gentle giant". This handsome guy came into the shelter as a stray a week before Christmas. The shelter staff just knew that someone would come looking for this fellow, but no such luck. When his time was up, ADS just knew that he had to become a Squad Dog.

Kirby is approximately one year old, house-trained and crate trained. He's also good with both dogs and cats; and he knows "sit" and "shake". When his foster family got him home, they were amazed at how well he knew his inside manners. Although he is tall for his age, he doesn't counter surf or beg at the table. So far, he has shown no interest in sitting on the furniture either. Kirby is very into his foster brothers and sisters, and playing with them and their toys. But he would also be a great only dog if there were someone who would play fetch with him and hold the other end of the rope for a tug-o-war game.

Although he'll do best with a fence, his biggest requirements for adoption are a Kong toy and a doggie bed. He can entertain himself for hours throwing his Kong around and watching it bounce off the wall and then going to track it down and repeat the same trick. After hours with his Kong, he settles in for a few minutes of serious chewing on the Kong before he falls asleep. When the rest of the family goes to bed, he settles into his own bed and quietly sleeps through the night. We're not sure he barks, as we haven't heard him utter any other sound besides a snore. If you're looking for a large dog with a large heart, be sure to meet Kirby.
