SquadDog Micah

Micah is a nice and agreeable dog whose story will make you angry. Someone did something terrible to him. He was picked up as stray with what appears to be acid burns down his back. The burns start near his neck and run all the way down to the base of his tail. We have no idea why someone would want to do something so horrible to such a wonderful, friendly boy.

Micah is playful and he loves people a lot. He’s a typical Chocolate – full of energy and cheerfulness. He likes to jump on furniture and on people too, so he does need some work in the manners department. However he’s house and crate trained, and he comes when called. He enjoys playing with other dogs and has a medium energy level. He’s active but settles down when inside. He’s great at fetching and he isn’t much of a barker; he’s more of an expressive whiner. He’s very curious about everything; and he loves his toys and plays nicely with them.

Micah is healing very well from his injury and he always has a smile for everyone he meets so his past has not jaded his outlook on life or about people. He’s a very special boy that has been through something no one should ever have to experience. He’s eagerly awaiting his forever family – one that will love him and keep him safe always.

Micah is 3 years old.

Update from Micah's foster mom:

Micah has lived with us for a few weeks now. He’s a medium to high-energy boy. He can chill in the house but if bored, he’ll make his own fun and mischief.

Socks are the only non-toy things he seems to covet. He’ll eat them so you need to be on your toes, so to speak, and get them before he does. He’s very social with people and dogs. And he can be a little pushy about it. It’s obvious that wherever he lived before his insistent behavior got him what he wanted. We’re working on patience and waiting; and he’s already getting it.

Micah is very intelligent and responsive to a handler. He responds to positive reinforcement and if you make things a game, he’s very attentive. He obviously has had previous training and can sit, shake and give a high-5. He learns very quickly and wants to please, so he’s a pleasure to work with. He does need a good bit of mental and physical exercise daily and his play with other dogs bears watching, as he tends to be a little too rough sometimes. This boy has a ton of potential.

More from Micah's foster mom:

Micah is good with my kids and everyone... however, he is very energetic, so he might be best with older kids - like 6 and up. He’s very smart. Too smart- he never forgets anything. He loves his tennis ball - so much so that when it rolls under the sofa or something else he will not rest until it is rescued. He’ll play with other dogs until he drops. If there is no other dog he will play by himself or pull your socks until you play with him.

Micah is affectionate. He is persistent. He walks well on a Gentle Leader collar. He is a counter cruiser and pantry invader. He doesn't bark a lot, but when he barks it’s a deep, manly bark. He would very much benefit from obedience training as he is very smart and picks things up quickly.
