Morgan wasn’t exactly the prettiest girl in the shelter when we met her. As a matter of fact, poor Morgan had such appallingly out-of-control skin infections all over that her neck and feet were horribly swollen, bloody and painful. Her discomfort brought tears to visitor’s eyes, but everyone walked past her run. She had little hope of making it out of the shelter and from her sad demeanor it was obvious that she understood that too.
Morgan had been picked up as a stray and her owners never came to get her. That’s probably the very best thing that ever happened to her, as her owners had not treated her skin condition. She was in awful shape; she felt very bad and looked incredibly sad. That’s when we discovered her. The shelter staff had treated her as best they could, but poor Morgan needed some extra special TLC and care. She really needed some hugs too.
After just a couple days of special treatments at our vet, Morgan was a new girl! When our volunteer saw her again, he remarked that she was so much different than when he initially took her for her first treatment. This time, instead of quietly obliging whatever he needed her to do, she joyfully licked his ears and face until he just couldn’t take it any more. She was in such high spirits he said he never would have recognized her as the same dog. She’s feeling much, much better now – and her skin is improving daily.
Morgan is around 5 years old and so very happy that someone loves her enough now to care for her. She has a little ways to go before her skin and fur are totally beautiful again, but her personality shines so brightly you hardly notice she has a bit more healing to do. This is one girl who truly appreciates her human friends. She’ll become a loving and devoted part of some very lucky family.
Update from Morgan's foster mom:
Well, it’s time for an update on Morgan. She’s been in foster care for months now, and her medical issues have been stabilized with daily medication and a regimented diet (at a cost of only $2-3 a day – and that includes all of her food and treats).
These days Morgan doesn't have time to dwell on how bad she used to feel. Her coat is almost completely grown back, and is a beautiful smooth chocolate brown. But more importantly, Morgan is an extremely sweet, gentle and very well behaved girl. She is eager to please and a wonderful companion and friend. She’s somewhere around 6-8 years old but she has tons of spunk and a spring in her step. She has the run of my house and gets along well with the male alpha dog she lives with. She is fully housebroken, and never chews or gets into trouble in the house (although she has been known to try to sneak onto the sofa when she thinks no one is home).
Morgan is happiest when she is with you, no matter what you are doing. If you are busy, she lies right near your feet, keeping an eye on you at all times in case she needs to jump up and follow you to another room. Morgan also loves squeaky toys, likes to go for walks, and LOVES to retrieve a tennis ball. She is very gentle when she brings the ball back and tries to place it right by your feet so you’re ready to throw it again right away!! She has the cutest habit when she gets excited – she bounces straight up in the air - just like a chocolate Mexican jumping bean! It always makes me laugh. I can see her head bouncing up and down through the front window when I get home from work, and if I try to sleep in too late on the weekends, Morgan will jump beside my bed – not on the bed, just straight up beside it – until I have to laugh and get up.
Morgan is looking for a home where she can hang out, play a little and get a lot of love and attention. She’s exceptionally sweet and her love and devotion are well worth the extra bit of care she needs. If you’re looking for a loyal, quiet and gentle companion and are able to provide a little extra care, Morgan would love to meet you.
