Morgan wasn’t exactly the prettiest girl in the shelter when we met her. As a matter of fact, poor Morgan had such appallingly out-of-control skin infections all over that her neck and feet were horribly swollen, bloody and painful. Her discomfort brought tears to visitor’s eyes, but everyone walked past her run. She had little hope of making it out of the shelter and from her sad demeanor it was obvious that she understood that too.
Morgan had been picked up as a stray and her owners never came to get her. That’s probably the very best thing that ever happened to her, as her owners had not treated her skin condition. She was in awful shape; she felt very bad and looked incredibly sad. That’s when we discovered her. The shelter staff had treated her as best they could, but poor Morgan needed some extra special TLC and care. She really needed some hugs too.
After just a couple days of special treatments at our vet, Morgan was a new girl! When our volunteer saw her again, he remarked that she was so much different than when he initially took her for her first treatment. This time, instead of quietly obliging whatever he needed her to do, she joyfully licked his ears and face until he just couldn’t take it any more. She was in such high spirits he said he never would have recognized her as the same dog. She’s feeling much, much better now – and her skin is improving daily.
Morgan is around 5 years old and so very happy that someone loves her enough now to care for her. She has a little ways to go before her skin and fur are totally beautiful again, but her personality shines so brightly you hardly notice she has a bit more healing to do. This is one girl who truly appreciates her human friends. She’ll become a loving and devoted part of some very lucky family.
Update from Morgan's foster mom:
In several Celtic languages Morgan means “dweller of the sea.” Considering how many medicated baths Morgan has had to cure her horrible skin condition, her affinity to water seems appropriate. She endured every treatment with patience, and now likes to have the shower massager pummel all those spots on her lower back that never get quite enough rubbing. She has gained 15 healthy pounds, has fur re-growth on her once badly irritated skin, and she looks years younger! She’s become a happy, bouncy girl.

Morgan gets along well with other dogs, loves children, and doesn’t even chase squirrels. She has the funniest walk – a little bit bow-legged, a little bit bouncy, completely tom-boyish like a girl wearing lady shoes for the first time. Morgan is easy to handle on a leash and she loves to go for long walks. She’s affectionate now that her skin is all healed and she’s happy to just watch her humans bustle about. She’s just glad she’s in the room with them, and no longer on the outside staring in.
