Shamus' story is heartbreaking. His beloved owner became terminally ill and could no longer provide appropriate care for him. A friend, thinking there was no other option and not realizing the grave danger, dropped him off at the shelter. Shamus was very confused and frightened by this new overwhelming environment. His chances of getting out of an already over-crowded shelter were minimal. He won over some of the shelter staff and they asked ADS to help him.

He's such a happy boy; we couldn't leave him there. This boy so badly needs to be back in a loving family environment. He has so much love and pure joy to share. He's house-trained and he knows basic commands like sit, shake and speak. He's just an all around great dog who so deserves another chance for his very own happily-ever-after story.

Update from Shamus' foster family:

Shamus is wonderful. He’s gentle and loves attention from children. He loves being a part of a family unit. He only chews on his toys, doesn’t dig and doesn’t climb fences. You can take food out of his mouth and he has no issues. He’ll play fetch and bring the ball back to continue playing.

He’s great with other dogs and minds his business when his foster doggy brothers give him a warning to back off. He loves to chase and be chased by other dogs. He LOVES car rides, loves to run and to play fetch. He also loves to chill out. We have such a good time watching him chase moths and fireflies. The look he gets while he’s chasing bugs is priceless. He even loves to chase a laser light at night! He loves the rain - and will sit out in the yard and chew a bone in the rain.

Shamus is a family dog, very friendly, playful, obedient and active. He loves attention and being part of the group. Shamus just loves life and is so happy go lucky. All in all … he is a perfect dog.
