Jacko's story is all too common thanks to the challenging economic times we're facing. We first heard about Jacko's situation when we received an email saying that his owners were going to have to euthanize him in 2 days if a new home couldn't be found. Unfortunately, his family had lost their home and moved into an apartment with Jacko and two small dogs. Due to his size (he's a typical Lab weighing around 80 pounds), they had to sneak Jacko into the new apartment in an attempt to keep him. But, the landlord found out and said that Jacko could not stay with them.
Poor Jacko. He is 8 years old and had lived with the family since he was a 7 month-old puppy. They were the only family he had ever known. ADS couldn't allow Jacko to be destroyed simply because his family had run into bad luck. It wasn't Jacko's fault. So, we decided he should be the newest member of our Squad.
This handsome, mature guy is housebroken and has lived inside. He's lived with other dogs and just needs someone to help him turn his luck around. Jacko still has some energy, but is past those wild puppy years. He's looking for a family that wants a companion interested in simply being with them. Experience tells us that mature dogs like Jacko are a great addition to any family because they are so grateful for the simple things. Like being loved. Jacko is waiting for a family with a lot of live to give, so that he can give it back ten-fold.
Jack recently wrote a letter to ADS, which his foster mom asked us to post:
Hi - my name is Jack. I am looking for a family who will love me forever and ever. Through no fault of my own (so I am told) I find myself homeless for the second time in a year!!
I am nine years young and still have lots of love and fun to give my new family. I love people of all ages and other dogs. I think cats are interesting, but I am not aggressive with them. I want to be your best friend. Whatever you want to do, I want to do it too! Walks? I'm ready! Fishing .... yes I'll go. Naps in the shade- I'm your man. Squeaky toy menaces need taming? I'm ready to go.
I would love to have a Dad, a Mom and even some kids to call my own. I sit nicely for a treat. I like Americas Got Talent and 60 Minutes, Sponge Bob too if you'd like me to watch tv with you. I've put on a couple extra pounds due to the stress of the last year, but my foster Mom has me on a high quality, low fat diet, so I should be at my ideal weight soon. I love a good bone now and then, but mostly just want to be with my family.
I am house trained. I am crate trained too but don't need a crate as I am a perfect gentleman in the house. If I do say so myself, I am one easy fella. Please consider making room for me in your family.
Love, Jack
