SquadDog Anya

Anya is happy all the time. It’s amazing that she has such a cheerful disposition. She wasn’t feeling well so her owners took her to the vet. When they found out further testing was recommended, they decided to take her to the shelter instead! When the staff explained that a 10-year-old with possible medical issues would most likely be put down immediately, her owners weren’t concerned and left her anyhow. Poor Anya.

It’s amazing what a cheerful outlook on life can do for you. Anya smiled and cheerfully greeted everyone she met and stole the hearts of the staff and volunteers. She never acted like she didn’t feel well at the shelter; we’re thinking maybe she just wanted a new home where someone loved her. She’s an awesome girl. Our volunteer didn’t even have to put a leash on her to take her out to the yard to meet her and get pictures. Anya followed her wherever she went – smiling up at her the whole time.

Anya is a pretty and active girl with a glossy black coat and lovely gray accents on her muzzle. Good-natured and lovable, she’s personality plus. She’ll be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a mature Lab who only wants to love and be loved.

Notes:

When Anya concentrates very hard – like when she’s expecting a really tasty treat, she has the ability to lift her ears upward, doing an excellent “flying nun” impersonation. It’ll make you laugh. Ask her to do it for you sometime.

Anya also does sneak attack smooching if she really likes you… She’ll act like she’s watching something else, and then she’ll turn unexpectedly and smother you in kisses. On the way to the vet, she left our volunteer overwhelmed with a multitude of wonderful thank-you smoochies.

Update from Anya's foster mom:

Anya loves other dogs and even shares her favorite toys with them. She’s eager to learn new things and loves to meet strangers. It takes her about 2 minutes to really warm up to you - then she's your best pal.

Her favorite pastimes are lying by your feet chewing on an antler, going for walks and playing fetch. She has quite a bit of spring in her step for a 10 year old. She runs in the yard as fast as dogs half her age and she loves to play chase. Anya would do very well in a home with other dogs, though she could be an only dog too.

Anya’s always happy and never stops "smiling". Sometimes she’ll sneak in just one kiss on your hand or your cheek, as if to say "thank you". She loves affection and will let you scratch her ears for as long as you like. She's the first face I see in the morning - she doesn't get on the bed (it's too high), but she puts her head on the edge of the mattress for her "good morning ear-scratch".

She knows SIT, COME, OUTSIDE, and to goes to her kennel when told. She’s crated during the day while we are at work with no problems. She'll bark when startled or when she sees something in the yard, but immediately stops upon command or a soothing word. Anya is 100% love. She would make a great addition to just about any family.
