Bousay is looking for a very special home. She is a one year old flat-coat/aussie mix that was dumped at a rural shelter with her sister. And we truly mean "dumped". The previous owner did not even take these dogs inside - they threw them into the woods that border the shelter. For months, Bousay and her sister lived in the woods and survived, thanks to the volunteers who kept water and food bowls filled on the edge of the woods. The two were finally trapped and taken into the warm confines of the shelter. They stayed together until Bousay's sister went to a rescue for Autralian Shepherds in New Hampshire.
At this point, Bousay was a little lost girl again with no one to call her own until an ADS volunteer found her and brought her into her new foster home. We found out a little bit more about Bousay when she had her checkup at the vets, which she passed with flying colors. All the vet techs noticed that Bousay was terrified of anyone who smoked or had a cigarette in their hand. The groomer was the one who figured out why - during Bousay's bath, the groomer found scars on her back that resembled the lighted tip of a cigarette. Even this sweet little girl had been abused for the first 6 months of her life, she is a quiet, well-behaved dog who is willing to learn how to trust again.
She would probably do well either in a very quiet household where someone could give her alot of attention and love or in a home with another dog so she could watch the "right" thing to do. She is still very timid and scared but has discovered that it is safe to take treats out of her foster mom's hand and that the dog bed by the side of the big bed is a really soft place to safely sleep at night. Bousay loves to have her belly rubbed and is learning to play ball with the rest of her foster family. If you are looking for a retriever who really needs you and your love, be sure to meet Bousay.
