SquadDog Ginny

A favorite of the shelter volunteers. That's what the notes said about Ginny, a very quiet and sweet little yellow Lab mix who has obviously had puppies. It was also obvious that someone had neglected her care as her skin was in terrible condition. Perhaps that is why she was continually overlooked at the shelter. But we knew that with some special TLC and good veterinary care, that Ginny would blossom into a dog that any family would want to adopt.

We estimate Ginny to be around 4-5 years old. And as we suspected, she is one awesome dog. Take a look at what her foster mom has to say about Ginny:

Of the 16 dogs that I have fostered for ADS, Ginny takes first prize for canine manners, sweetness, and easy integration into our household. She may also be the smartest dog I’ve ever fostered. She has been attentive to all that has gone on within the human and canine family this holiday season, often cocking her head to the side as if analyzing the situation and determining the proper way to react. On her first try, she mastered the complicated process of calmly sitting while she was leashed and then waiting patiently at “sit” in front of an open door until I gave her the signal that she was allowed to cross the threshold.

She likes looking through the toy bucket but seems very aware that these things belong to the other dogs. She loves being outside and talking walks.

Ginny is, for the most part, reserved, but very happy. Sometimes she is so happy that she just needs to let go of a little crow, “woo-woo-woo-woo”. It’s very cute.

I crated her at night and while we were away for the first 3 days of her stay but she now has full access to the house. As far as I can tell she has no bad habits…no counter cruising, doesn’t try to get on the furniture, absolutely no aggressive tendencies and is not destructive in any way. She takes treats and food from my hand very gently. She's very respectful of my 2 resident dogs.

Ginny is relatively submissive. While she gets along well with all other dogs, she stands back when doggie play gets too rowdy. She often plays by herself, tossing toys in the air and then chasing them. I think she would be happiest being "the dog", or teamed with another quieter canine. She ignored the cats at the vet’s office but is very attentive to them outdoors and would probably give chase to cats and other small furry creatures if she was allowed.

Ginny is just great. It will be hard to give this girl up.
