Jake B isn’t only a Squad Dog; he’s a real flyboy! This happy five-year-old found himself in a shelter in South Georgia, near the Florida border. The shelter staff absolutely adored him and asked us to help him find his forever home. The more we learned about him, the more we knew he was definitely Squad material.... But the problem was getting him here, as is always the case when we work with rural shelters. Arranging transport assistance to cover several hundred miles is quite a task for all rescues – and there are usually lots of snags and delays during the coordination of efforts. But not in Jake’s case! Thanks to Pilots N Paws, Jake hopped a flight to metro Atlanta! “It’s a bird! It’s a Plane! No… it’s Cessna Jake!”
What a sight to see the plane pull up to the terminal with Jake riding in the back, in his harness, like he had been doing it his whole life - just happy as a clam. They’d cracked the windows a bit for him (when it was safe to do so) and he enjoyed the fresh air as though nothing was out of the ordinary. Upon arrival, he jumped out of the plane like it was "old hat" for him. What a great dog!
To put it simply, Jake is one awesome boy. He knows several commands including "sit", "down", "shake" and "high five". And he loves to get treats after he performs! He has the best personality and a nice energy level too - not lethargic, but not a whirling dervish either. He acts like a nice adult dog should. He’s very handsome and he looks 100% Labby until you get to his tail, which curves up over his back in a cheerful sort of way.
Jake B was very lucky to have made it out of the shelter and into rescue. But the family that adopts him will be the luckiest family ever.
***ADS would like to send a shout-out to all the pilots and volunteers that help transport animals in need through Pilots N Paws. We’d like to especially thank Chris and Heather for bringing Jake B to Atlanta. This is an amazing group. Please spread the word and support their efforts.
