ADS volunteers found this little 3 month old boy all alone in the woods using all his instincts to survive. He had scratches and cuts on his handsome face apparently from a battle he lost. All curled up in a pile of leaves in a sunny spot like the smart boy he is, Marlboro looked so lonely and lost. It had been extremely cold in the mountains the days before he was found. He must have used all his energy to keep warm as he was very thin and tired. The first 3 days after his rescue, all he could do was sleep and eat. But he's feeling fine now and adores playing with his 3 new “Foster Lab Sisters”.
Marlboro is crate trained and sleeps through the night. He loves tennis balls and is learning to fetch. He's all Lab, and easily greets other dogs and people. Plus, his muscles are stengthening and he is filling out. This handsome Mountain Man is ready to be your forever playmate.
In his own words:
I don’t know why I had such a fate to be left wandering in the big woods all alone. Mom had long gone along with all my siblings. I looked everywhere for my food bowl and finally decided that if I was to eat, I had to find it on my own! I wasn’t much of a hunter, Bugs and a few scraps were all I could find. I learned my bark was really good at keeping scary things away from me in the middle of those dark nights in the woods. I also learned that a pile of leaves made for a nice bed when the sun was shining on them.
One day as I was trying to shake off one cold night and prepare for another one, I was suddenly surrounded by a bunch of people and other dogs that looked like my mom. They said Hey!, come with us. You’ll have fun! So I did.
They gave me a nice warm spot in front of the fire and my own bowl of food. I was so tired, I barely could get to know them very well, but they kept feeding me and just let me sleep. Every now and then I would stretch my legs enough to check them out but just long enough to get back on my bed and go to sleep.
One morning we all left and went to a whole new place. They called it home. I liked it too but it was so new to me. I was feeling all better and ready to explore, but never too far from my new friends. Other dog playmates came to see me and I liked them. My Foster Mom took me to a nice man called a vet. I liked him too. He poked me a couple of places and rubbed my coat and said I’m going to be just fine. He said I was about 3-4 months old lab mix. I don’t know why he didn’t just ask me. I would have told him that!
We have traveled to other places as well. I like the car and get a window seat every time. We are at a place they call the beach now. It’s really different from the grassy mountains that I came from. I like the beach, I can run and run and run and run so fast and nothing gets in my way….except my new foster sister Bella. She’s my favorite playmate and we wrestle and roll.
I like my new life. Bella said this is the way we are supposed to live with our family. She says that I will get my own family soon, but until then she would share hers. I have learned a lot in my last few months. I’ve learned to be Friendly, Courageous, and Grateful. I promise when I have my own family I’ll be their best friend, faithful partner and protector.
Love, Marlboro
