Miller is a big ol’ mellow lug with a heart of gold. He, like so many pets, was a throw away – a pet that someone tossed away like an old unwanted stuffed toy. His owners had kept him outside in a pen, along with two small dogs. When they moved out, they left all three dogs behind. Thankfully, their kind-hearted landlord worked hard to place all of the dogs with rescue groups.
It’s obvious these folks had no idea what an awesome dog they had. Oh well, it’s clearly their loss. We feel lucky to have been given the opportunity to help Miller. He deserves so much better than being penned up and then abandoned. He’s such a nice boy; he deserves the very best. He’s great with other animals and he loves kids too. He loves living inside now and he’s extremely well-mannered and conscientious.
We think Miller is somewhere around 7 years old. He’s on the not-so-small side, weighing in at over one hundred pounds – a true gentle giant. If you have room in your life to share with a friendly, devoted and gentle companion, make sure you meet Miller.
Update from Miller's foster mom:
Miller is doing great. He has only had one accident in the house. He is great with the other dogs and has gone nose to nose with our one of our cats and both of our chickens - he just briefly sniffs and walks away. Our little terrier has done everything to pick a fight and Miller just ignores him while giving our old lady poodle a lot of room and a lot of respect. He loves to play with other dogs. When he runs he sort of galumps about and it looks like he's running in slow motion.
He has free run of the house when we're home and he's either crated or in our bedroom with the door closed when we go out. He sleeps through the night next to our bed and only stirs when we wake him to take him out with the rest of the dogs. He isn’t comfortable yet with inside stairs and will go up them; but he stands at the top and cries for help coming down. We have a few stairs outside; he has mastered those.
It's crazy that his former owners never let him inside. He is so gentle and careful inside the house and with the kids. He kind of puckers his lips out so his teeth don't touch you at all when he takes a treat from your hand.
It's hard to get a good picture showing what a huge sweetheart and old soul he is. He would make an out of this world therapy dog. You could take him to a children's hospital or a nursing home and he would love it.
