Fischer is a sweet, long, lanky, chocolate goof. He was picked up as a stray by animal control, and from the looks of him, it was probably the best thing that could have happened. His fur was scruffy and sun-bleached; his ears had fly-strikes and he was so thin and dirty it upset everyone who saw him. He only weighed 55 pounds when taken off the streets – and he should have weighed a minimum of 15 pounds more!
Once in the shelter his outgoing personality and goofy ears-back, nose-up smile grabbed everyone’s attention so he got some special care and extra food to try to help him put on some weight. Unfortunately the stress of the loud, busy shelter environment combined with the yucky shelter food didn’t agree with him; and he continued to lose weight. His new shelter pals called ADS for help.
Fischer is feeling much better now… He actually tells us he feels a little better every day. The spring in his step gets a little “springier” every day too. His coat should be a rich dark chocolate once the good nutrition starts kicking in. And he really, really loves his food and treats now - so we’re thinking he'll be up to a good weight in no time. He’s just ecstatic to have people who care about him and who will spend time with him. And did we mention that he loves his food and treats?
We estimate his age to be around 1 year old and he has been fine with all the dogs he’s met so far… even a rather rambunctious puppy. We don’t know about cats yet; and we feel he would be just fine with older kids. He is still in ‘eager eater’ mode so he can be a little grabby with his treats. But if you remind him before handing him something, he takes it quite nicely.
Fischer has a ton of potential. He is yearning to find someone to nurture it… and him. Please be sure to meet this great boy!
