"The Pie Sistahs"
Sweet as pie. That's how we describe these two black Lab mix sisters and that's how they got their names: Honey Pie and Sugar Pie. It's too bad that their life prior to becoming Squad Dogs wasn't as sweet as their personalities.
We're not 100% sure that they are biological siblings, but we do know that they have been together since they were just pups. When we heard they were on death row at an area shelter, we immediately sprang into action to save them.
It seems our 7-year old Pie sisters were frequent fliers at the county animal shelter. Why? Because their owners wouldn't take time to simply fix their fence even when Honey and Sugar kept escaping from the backyard and travelling around town. What's even more disturbing is that these dogs lived in a very affluent neighborhood where fixing a fence likely would not have been a financial hardship for the owners. The last time the sisters went roaming and found themselves in the shelter, their owners decided to just surrender them -- knowing full well that the likelihood of two 7-year old black dogs getting out alive was not great. Luckily, the shelter volunteers put on a full court press to save these two adorable girls and ADS was able to rescue them.
Because these girls are so bonded, we are waiting for that perfect family to adopt them as a pair. We cannot see splitting them up, as they have learned to rely on each other because they couldn't rely on their owners. At the shelter they were allowed to just hang out with the employees and volunteers because they were so (you guessed it) SWEET! They are definitely past the puppy antics, but still would do well with an active family because they are still active. And, they are very capable of entertaining each other when people are not around.
Honey Pie and Sugar Pie are in desperate need of a loving family and a new home where they will be loved, secure and well cared for. A permanent home is our wish for them, but in the meantime they are also in the market for a foster home to help them transition out of a kennel. Please consider giving these sweet sisters a second chance in your home.
