SquadDog AbbyMae

When you’re a shelter dog and you’re adopted by someone who is a self-described rescuer, you expect to be safe and well-cared-for forever. Well, that’s not the case with our Miss Abby Mae. Her “rescuer” made her stay outside and didn’t restrain her, so she kept winding up at the shelter. On top of that, she also let Abby gain a lot of weight – she was close to 100 lbs when we got her! Plus she didn’t provide monthly preventive care so Abby also developed heartworms! The last time Abby wound up in the shelter, her owner didn’t bother to come get her even though she knew Abby was there. She left her there - a large, overweight, heartworm positive dog in a crowded, high-kill shelter -- knowing that she didn’t stand much of a chance of getting out alive. How sad.

Well 5 year-old Abby’s luck changed drastically when she met one of our volunteers. Our volunteer immediately recognized how awesome Abby was. And there was just no way she was leaving Abby in the shelter. So – one phone call and one fun car ride later – and Abby was safely deposited at our vet… ready for her bright future, and looking forward to good health and happiness that her new start with ADS would bring. Abby’s working on getting her figure back - and she will be totally healthy again very soon.

We have since discovered that our Abby Mae has some qualities that her previous owner didn’t notice… like she is Fantastic and Wonderful! We’re really not sure how she missed those things about her; they’re so obvious to us. Abby is housetrained, great with kids and good with other dogs. And she’s extremely eager to start her new life with a family that will love her and care for her forever.
