Seven-month-old Rolo is sweet and shy. He takes treats ever so gently and he walks really nicely beside you on a leash. His eyes light up when you offer him a treat. And when he finds one in your coat pocket, he gets a sort of happy, goofy look on his face as though he's saying "Oh, for me? Cool!”
This lovable chocolate Lab mix and his brother were taken to the shelter because they kept digging out of their pen. As is true with any typical Lab, being away from the fun and companionship of their family just didn't work for them, so they spent all of their time working to get out of their outdoor enclosure. After several successful escapes and dangerous jaunts through surrounding neighborhoods, their owners decided it was best for both boys to find new homes.
The brothers took their new situation in stride. As a matter of fact they were happy to be inside, out of the cold and dampness. And, after all, they still had each other so they weren’t too worried. But then Rolo’s brother was adopted, and suddenly Rolo was all alone and very scared. He’d never been away from his brother before… and he’d never been alone at all. He curled up in a ball on his blanket and shivered in fear. A little later an ADS volunteer came to meet him and she enticed him to come out in the yard. Rolo was so frightened he belly crawled all the way to the door, had to be lifted over the threshold, and didn’t want to budge once outside. With just a little encouragement and sweet-talk, he opened up, returned a hug and got his wag on. He happily became a Squad Dog.
Rolo is submissive, easy-going and doesn’t have a lot of experience in the real world. He’s very polite but will need a family that will help him get comfortable with all the amazing new things he’s going to experience. He’s a wonderful boy and he’ll absolutely thrive with love, encouragement and patience.
